It's rather sad to say something and sit back just to realize what you are waiting for is what has become the obligatory refutation of what you've said from certain sources.

That no matter what you are talking about those people are going to argue against your point. You'll say the sky is a beautiful blue and they'll say sure BUT it's got a red tone to it that is overwhelming that blue. It it will be no where near sunrise nor sunset.

Oh, they aren't being like that at all.

i have more than a few friends that take anything one does as a challenge, that requires: it be put down/in it's place, and something to top it.

it's really sorta depressing, and i don't see them much anymore, because every conversation is a one up act non stop. it's never about sharing cool finds and facts, it's "oh, that's so last week, yeah, old news"

bah :>

I am hoping it's not in a venue where you care about the people.

It is only a few people that I expect that sort of thing from. And for the most part I can ignore them and concentrate on everything else.

But yes, that's one of the reasons I've resuscitated my LiveJournal. (Don't let the bastards bring you down. They'll just beat you with their experience when you get to their level.)

Ick. Yes. And sometimes if you just blow it off, a certain type of person like that takes it as "see, you can't refute what I have to say!"

One advantage of constant fatigue is that I have had to learn not to worry as much about stuff like that... there are few enough advantages, I might as well cite the few there are :-).

Oh hell yes. I've learned to just shrug them off and not say anything after their refutation of what I said. Let someone else shoulder the burden. I just don't care anymore.

It's tempting to refute the refuting of the refutation ... but I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it.
